Adding a Roku SoundBridge

I bought a Roku SoundBridge M1000 so I thought I'd share how to use it with a Twonk'd NSLU2.

See if you can follow this...

  • Connect it to your network.
  • Connect its audio-out to a sound system.
  • Turn it on.

Moments later, there was my nascent music library, nicely sorted and ready to play.

An interesting side note: I ran Cidero and noticed that it sees the Roku as a "renderer". I double-clicked on a tune in the music library library and a player applet appeared. Upon clicking the applet's play button the tune began playing through the Roku's attached sound system, even though the Roku was "off". Apparently the Roku's power button puts it in Standby mode, its display off; but it can still receive and play music. Interesting, huh?
